ON YOUR DOORSTEP.

Writing a blog is without doubt my favourite thing in the world. It’s a place to call my own, somewhere I can be completely, unapologetically myself.

I’ve been writing here for over 5 years, and in that time so much has changed.

Back in 2012, I’d stand in my back garden with my tripod and self timer; propping myself awkwardly against my parents fence, my side sweeping fringe blowing in the wind whilst taking hundreds of outfit photos.

I loved it.

Naturally, like with everything, blogging has changed over time. Our content is glossier, our disco pants slyly hidden away for cat woman halloween costumes and our garden fences used purely for the neighbours to nose over.

Now, I don’t want us to go back in time, that would be foolish and quite frankly, unfashionable.

No, what I want is for us all to realise that our lives, wherever we live, whatever we like to do: it’s enough.

Something I find so interesting, not just within blogging specifically, but the new digital age of the ‘influencer’ - is the notion that you have to apparently fit a certain mould to be successful.

I’ve said time and time again, you don’t need an instagram theme, nor a designer handbag if you don’t want one - and you absolutely do not need to live in London.

Blogging became successful because it came from a genuine place, and that’s exactly where we should keep it.

But what’s the point in saying that, if there’s no proof in the pudding?

Well my friends, I’m here to tell you there is.

Right here, right now. There's pudding, and there’s proof in it, too.

Yes, we will change and so will our content, that’s a given. But the personal challenge we face shouldn't be how we achieve a lifestyle that’s alien to the one we live in real life. The challenge should be to keep it as close to home as possible.

And so, I’ve teamed up with my favourites Olympus.

They asked if Jamie and I would be interested in a photography masterclass with their brand photographer, Jay. Of course we said yes, what with Jamie becoming a more predominant figure on my blog, it made sense to utilise the skills of another professional to help enhance what we already create together. And with that, they asked if they could combine it with a photoshoot…

Olympus would scout out some places to shoot in my local area and together, we’d prove my point.

These photos were taken in Peterborough town centre.

Yep.

At places that on face value, you'd probably not look twice at.

It was raining. Pouring, actually. My hair went instantly frizzy and the sun didn't shine even for a minute - but we made it work. From a random electricity box to eating donuts in the street and lunch at Wimpy to talking over coffee at the end of the day; it goes to show, you don't need a bog standard beautiful backdrop to create great imagery.

You can live anywhere.

You can be interested in any thing

All you need is to stop looking so hard.

There’s beauty in every corner, not just South Kensington high street.

And sometimes? It’s right on your doorstop.

These photos are INCREDIBLE! And you are so, so right - I'm really guilty of rushing off and booking travels when there are so many places to explore right on my doorstep x

These photographs are just SO beautiful Meg. You are right, beauty really is on your doorstep. Everyone is unique, and South Kensington does get extremely dull after the 120938th time haha! I have just invested in the EPL-8 and the 45mm lens and I am CHUFFED. It has completely revitalised my blog! Immy x

Absolutely love this post. I'm totally guilty of trying to find that 'instagramable' location and not pushing myself to get creative. Also makes me miss my hometown, now I want to go back to Belfast and scout out some locations.

This is beautiful and inspiring. I know that when it comes to blogging, my biggest obstacle is the photograpjy aspect of it. It's like I'm too harsh on myself, or that I would post photos are are of my superb quality. I want to be able to take more photos more often, but for me finding people to go with me and be my models (or model me!) is so difficult. Love love love this post so much ♥️

Oh Megs you are so right on this. The photos are absolutely beautiful and really do prove your point that you can live anywhere and photograph anything as long as it is truthful to your authentic self.

I loved this post. You are so right. There's this idea that I feel is in the back of everyone's minds. The idea is that you have to be able to buy certain products. You have to be able to travel often. You have to live in a certain area. but you are so right. You don't need to do anything to fit the mold of the perfect blogger. There is not such thing as the perfect blogger. We made this imaginary person up. I feel like I needed to hear this, so thank you very much xxx

These photos are just gorgeous! And what you've said is so true! I often still take my blog photos in my bedroom or back garden - there's beauty everywhere and all you have to do is work with your surroundings and be yourself with it! xxx

Thank you so much for this post, it was highly needed. Most of the time when I look at Instagram or bloggers that have bigger following, nicer things, experience more makes me more demotivated rather than motivated, it feels so out of reach to do more now days, the industry feels so over saturated that it feels hard to break though. But you're totally right, we need find beauty in everyday things <3

Really loved this post! Can't believe they were taken in Peterborough, you're so right though you don't need to be in London for amazing shots and you prove that. I'm a couple train stops down the line in St Neots, we should get a coffee some time :)

I absolutely love this post and couldn't agree more ... some of my favourite photographs have been taking on the moors I'm lucky enough to live close to.
